Endowment

Our endowment puts savings and investments to work, generating interest income for operations that is intended to last forever. A strong endowment enables us to meet current and future program needs, maintain a stable funding stream despite fluctuations in the economy, lower our dependence on the cookie program, and have the ability to respond to immediate or emergency needs.

Stephanie A. Foote Leadership Prize for Gold Award Excellence
In 2015, the inaugural Stephanie A. Foote Leadership Prize was awarded.  This prize is given annually to a Girl Scout who has earned a Gold Award in the current year and whose project is selected by an independent panel as an exceptional example of sustainable leadership. One prize in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded at a Highest Award recognition event and prize recipient will be invited to speak at Girl Scouts of Colorado events throughout the state.

The Mary Jo Jacobs, MD Memorial Girl Scout Adventure Fund
In 2014, Mary Jo Jacob’s four children established this fund in her memory.  “Dr. Mary Jo Jacobs was the epitome of one that not only spoke the Girl Scout Law, but lived it from an early age.” She was a real “go-getter” and dedicated her life to family, friends, patients, and her chosen profession of medicine. This fund will grant a minimum of one scholarship each year to a Girl Scout in Garfield and/or Eagle counties, where Dr. Jacobs served the communities in so many ways. The family hopes that many girls will have the same positive experience, education, and adventure that their mom had through her involvement in Girl Scouting and her opportunity to attend Girl Scout Camp.

Rae Ann & Richard E. Dougherty Look Wider International Travel Fund
In 2013, thanks to a generous gift from lifetime Girl Scouts, RaeAnn and Rich Dougherty, this fund was established to provide annual scholarships to Girl Scouts to fulfill their travel dreams.  In the 2016-17 membership year, girls traveled to Mongolia and Sangam World Centre in Pune, India, courtesy of the scholarship. Applications are open year-round.

Doris M. Knudsen Sterling Endowment
In 2015, funds long-held locally in Sterling were added to the Girl Scouts of Colorado Endowment portfolio.  A generous bequest by Doris M. Knudsen supports Girl Scouting activities in Sterling and Logan County and ongoing maintenance of beloved Pawnee Lodge in Pioneer Park in Sterling.  Funds are distributed annually to Girl Scouts, troops and service units to support events and activities which further the mission of Girl Scouting and honor the memory of Doris M. Knudsen.
